Khushrooh Pheroz Byramjee (1947-2002):
Khushrooh Pheroz Byramjee was born on the 22nd of October 1947.
After his schooling in Mumbai he went to the United Kingdom to attain a Charterd
Accountants degree. In 1972, after coming back from England as a qualified Chartered
Accountant (England and Wales) from the leading London based firm of Coopers and
Lybrand he joined his ancestral business as the distributor of the Times of India
Newspaper in Mumbai.
The Times of India was part of the Bennet Coleman and Company Ltd which is till
today, the largest circulating newspaper in India and even worldwide. This was Khushrooh
Byramjee’s first brush with Supply Chain Management.
Later he took over the stevedoring firm of M. B. Eduljee Cassinath Sons (est.
1857), which has now mushroomed into a multi-million rupee enterprise
and arguably the most successful stevedoring set-up in the country.
Under his leadership, M.B.Eduljee Cassinath Sons grew from being just a stevedoring
company to a large conglomerate offering various logistics services to its clients
and in 2000 he re-christened the company as Casby Logistics Pvt. Ltd.
A true visionary, Mr. Byramjee made an immense contribution to the country’s shipping
prowess. He was on the Governing Board of India’s premier port, The Mumbai Port
Trust. He also played an important role in the setting up of The Nhava Sheva International
Container India’s first private Container Terminal.Mr. Byramjee’s vision caused
him to be one of the first private Indian investors in Container Terminals.
